Policy/Advocacy

Since May 2023 I have been the Senior Policy Officer for the Consumers Health Forum of Australia and before that I was their Research and Policy Adviser starting in October 2018. In those two roles I’ve worked on numerous projects and with multiple other organizations on health policy issues, particularly relating consumer experiences on engaging with the primary healthcare system and devising way to address identified issues (yes, this covers a lot of ground!). Here’s a short list of some of the more interesting ones which you can ask me about:

As the SOSFA Executive Officer since 2016, in addition to general administrative management (meeting secretariat, website development, social media etc) I have co-ordinated or assisted on the following projects:

  • Fragility Fracture Primary Care “Demonstrator Site Proposal” development and political advocacy, including budget submission
  • ANZ Fragility Fracture Registry
  • ACSQHC Secondary Fracture Cliniccal Care Standards (in progress)
  • Osteoporosis Awareness Video script writing and distribution
  • Write to your Minister Campaign
  • Multiple Budget submissions (unsuccessful so far)
  • Also ran their Governing Committee elections in 2019 and 2024. Not really a health thing though.

Also in mid-2021 I did a project for the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia reviewing the climate policies and positions of ASX200 companies and related key stakeholders for developing a business/industry related effort for climate action.
