About

I am… a bit hard to pin down.

I am the Senior Policy Officer at the Consumers Health Forum of Australia and the Executive Officer of the SOS Fracture Alliance. Between these two positions I have a mix of experience in advocating for improvements and developing policy in a range of health areas including consumer involvement in health research, secondary fracture prevention, therapeutic good regulation, digital health and other areas at the intersection of health, research and consumers. I also have some experience with clinical data registries through my work with the ANZ Fragility Fracture Registry.

By training I am technically a Science Communicator who completed a B.Sci (Hons) at the Australian National University majoring in Astronomy/Astrophysics and Science Communication. I was a self-funded part time PhD Candidate and Sessional Academic at ANU from 2016-2022, though I withdrew from the program following the post-COVID impact on universities/ANU as it was clear our (my and ANUs) priorities had diverged. I was also quite active as a casual employee in the National Tertiary Education Union, culminating in being part of the EBA bargaining negotiations in 2022/2023.

I’m currently part-time studying a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) through Melbourne Business School, which I’ll hopefully complete by the end of 2026.

I’m also a one-eyed supporter of the GWS Giants, am an active member of the Greens, was a volunteer AFL Canberra umpire, started the GAMMA.CON Pop-culture Festival and used to fly Hot Air Balloons.

A mostly complete, current(ish) copy of my resume can be found here James Ansell Resume (Nov 2024) (current as of Nov 2024…as suggested by the file name).
